Pockets of Memory

Pocket by Lisa Thompson - Florida, USA

The Begining of this Project

This project started with the idea of the knot as symbol of memory.
In peruvian Inca tradition the Quipu or khipu were recording devices used in the Inca Empire and its predecessor societies in the Andean region.
Ancient Peruvian Quipu

I started with the idea of a knotted dress as a way to put together our memories, The act of making a knot is the act of holding, keeping, remembering not only for peruvian culture but for many traditions the ask to make a knots in order to remember.
After this idea was developed I thought of the contemporary way of keeping and the pocket appeared. A pocket of memory .
